…and the big news is!

Dominating proceedings at the recent Agie Charmilles Technology Show was the sale of Agie Charmilles’ large-capacity HPM 1350U 5-axis machining centre to market-leading precision subcontract machining specialist, The Di-Spark Group.

Large CNC Machining Capability

The HPM 1350 with its large 1100mm diameter worktable (capable of handling work-pieces up to 1600kg in weight), its powerful 24,000 spindle (with coolant-through-spindle capability), 92-position ATC and suite of SMART technology software modules, is designed to machine (3 + 2 positional and full 5-axis simultaneous) large, heavy and awkward-size parts.

The machine is being delivered to Di-Spark’s Portsmouth facility (wk commencing 14 October), where it will be used to machine high-precision, complex parts for the aerospace/aviation, satellite, motorsport, defence , energy, nuclear and oil and gas sectors.

Commented Di-Spark’s managing director, David Light:

“We have a reputation for being pioneers in the application of advanced machining technology. We were one of the first UK companies to exploit the potential of using EDM technology for machining high-precision, complex production parts.

“We were also quick to embrace 5-axis & multi-axis milling technology.”

“The acquisition of the HPM 1350U continues our legacy of innovation. The new, large machine increases our machining capacity significantly and we will be able to use it to open up new opportunities for the multi-axis machining of large components across a range of specialised, high-value sectors, such as aerospace & aviation, satellite & space components, oil & gas components and within the defence sector.”
