Precision Electrical Discharge Machining: Spark Erosion

Di-Spark Ltd offer round the clock precision machining services. In addition to multi-task 5 axis milling and mill-turn departments, Di-Spark also run 2 separate precision electrical discharge machining departments. Our Spark Erosion EDM department can be viewed in the video, below.

EDM Machined Components & Sub-Assemblies for the Oil & Gas Sector

The video below illustrates components manufactured for the Oil & Gas sector, machined via precision electrical discharge machining processes. EDM machining can prove useful for machining part-machined components which have subject to hardening & heat treatment, or indeed for the machining of components using hardened or exotic materials from scratch. As part of a lean-manufacturing philosophy, precision electrical discharge machining is a useful tool and a smart manufacturing choice.

Precision Electrical Discharge Machining: Spark Erosion Automated Robot Handling & CNC Control

The latest Spark Erosion machines carry automated robot handling for tool change & computer numerical control. Automated EDM carries an efficiency benefit over fully manual machines in terms of saved setup time, with multiple tool changes and process variations possible from a single setup.

Precision Machining From Solid: From Work-Piece To Component

Choosing the correct machining process for a given component is critical for component integrity, finish and also to remain cost-effective. Precision electrical discharge machining is often used as the last process in a chain of machining processes – post hardening and/or heat treatment, but is a remarkable machining process in it’s own right. Precision electrical discharge machining is capable of exacting tolerances, internal profiling, awkward angles, small internal radii, recesses, angled cuts, thin walled assemblies, none-circular cavities and complex geometric shapes – all of which can prove challenging via milling technologies.

Clean Cut Wire Erosion – Precision Electrical Discharge Machining

Di-Spark use AgieCharmilles clean-cut wire electrical discharge machining centres – the latest wire EDM machines using advanced power management resulting in a cleaner cut and a much refined finish.

Agie CUT 300 machines digital drive servos react quickly to changing conditions in the spark gap – controlling and adapting the spark pulse to achieve consistently high accuracies and finishes.

Clean cut generator technology mitigates the contamination of work-piece surfaces (e.g. when manufacturing components using Titanium/Titanium alloys) and eliminates the forming of a re-cast layer. Our Clean cut technology is NADCAP approved making the machines suitable for high-quality and high-tech applications such as those used withinin aero-engine manufacture, aerospace components, defence sub-assemblies and satellite manufacture.
